Video shows how motorcycle thieves snatch phones in broad daylight

A motorcycle carrying two people swept past a man speaking on his phone near Shopping del Sol in Asunción, and the passenger grabbed the device without getting off the bike. Security cameras captured the entire operation.

Hugo Adrián Fernández said the incident happened around 12:50 p.m. on Aug. 26, on Juan XXIII Street near Cecilio Da Silva. He said the motorcycle approached at high speed, came so close that it brushed against him, and the passenger took the phone from his hand.

“People on a motorcycle traveling at high speed brushed against me, literally, and took the phone from my hand,” Fernández said. He was able to see the passenger because the rider had raised the helmet visor. Fernández said he froze after the incident and found no police officers nearby when he tried to seek help.

He later tried to track the phone, but it stopped transmitting its location almost immediately. He filed a report at the 10th Metropolitan Police Station. While there, he said, another person reported being robbed minutes earlier after getting off a bus on Aviadores del Chaco Avenue, opposite the shopping center. Fernández said that victim also had a phone snatched by two people on a motorcycle.

Fernández suspects the thieves may be moving through the area looking for victims and repeating the same method after each robbery. He also pointed to another recently reported case involving a motorcycle, two occupants and a passenger wearing a blue helmet. He questioned the lack of security in a heavily traveled area and urged authorities to determine whether the incidents are connected.
