Vietnam Airlines flight returns to Munich due to technical issue

A Vietnam Airlines flight bound for Hanoi from Munich experienced a technical issue shortly after departure, forcing it to return to Munich Airport. Flight VN34, operated on a Boeing 787-9 aircraft, safely landed back at its origin airport on August 15.

According to Vietnam Airlines, the flight crew followed standard procedures after the technical problem arose, ensuring a safe landing. All passengers and the flight crew were unharmed. Images from Munich Airport showed the aircraft flying low over the runway before landing, with reports indicating the appearance of orange smoke from the rear of the plane after takeoff.

Firefighting services were on standby as a precautionary measure. Vietnam Airlines stated that it is cooperating with authorities to determine the specific cause of the incident. The airline is also working on arrangements to support affected passengers and will provide further updates once the inspection is complete and a new operational plan is established. The airline expressed regret for the disruption to passengers' travel plans, emphasizing that safety remains its top priority.
