Heavy rains flood Quang Tri, cutting off roads and submerging 13 crossings

Quang Tri province in Vietnam is experiencing significant disruptions due to heavy rainfall since August 10-11, 2026. Localized flooding has inundated several mountainous areas, leading to the blockage of transportation routes.

According to a rapid report from the Quang Tri Provincial Civil Defense Command, rainfall has been intense, with recorded amounts reaching 186 mm in Huong Loc and 178.4 mm in Lao Bao. This downpour has submerged 13 culverts and crossings across southern mountainous districts, causing traffic to halt. Specific areas affected include Tan Lap, Li A, A Doi, Huong Phung, and Khe Sanh communes, where multiple road sections are impassable.

Authorities have responded by deploying personnel to guard submerged culverts and crossings. Barriers and warning signs have been erected in dangerous areas prone to landslides and flooding to prevent people and vehicles from entering unsafe zones. In Khe Sanh commune, a residential area has been identified as having landslide risk, prompting local government to advise the family to temporarily relocate.

Beyond transportation issues, the heavy rains have also caused some damage to agricultural land and infrastructure. Approximately 1 hectare of rice paddies in Khe Sanh commune was flooded. Additionally, a bridge in Ba Nang commune, which was under repair, was damaged by a strong surge of water, making passage impossible. A culvert in Lao Bao commune also experienced a 2-meter-wide landslide.
