Vietnam Awards Ho Chi Minh Order to Five Former Politburo Members

Vietnam celebrated its revolutionary history and recognized the enduring contributions of its leaders on August 18, coinciding with the 81st anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day. The Politburo and Secretariat hosted a meeting to honor former Politburo members, former Central Committee members not re-elected to the 14th term, and award them Party insignias.

General Secretary and State President Tô Lâm presented the prestigious Ho Chi Minh Order to five former Politburo members. These included former State President Lương Cường, former Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, former Head of the Central Internal Affairs Commission Phan Đình Trạc, former Standing Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Hòa Bình, and former Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyễn Văn Nên. The award recognized their "great and exceptionally outstanding contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation."

Additionally, the ceremony bestowed First and Second Class Independence Orders upon former Central Committee members for their exceptional service to socialism and national defense. Party insignias, including 60, 45, 40, and 35-year awards, were also presented to current and former leaders. President Tô Lâm emphasized the importance of continued dedication from these leaders, urging them to share their "spirit, intellect, and leadership culture" with younger generations.

In his address, Tô Lâm stressed the paramount importance of integrity and accountability for high-ranking officials. He called for continued efforts in power control, combating corruption and waste, and protecting innovative officials who serve the nation and its people. He also highlighted the need for streamlined, efficient state machinery and a people-centric approach to all policy decisions. The General Secretary also visited the 308th Infantry Division, emphasizing the need to maintain peace in a rapidly changing and uncertain world, and to pursue national development with strong resolve.
