Vietnam Clinch Fourth ASEAN Crown After Thrilling Final Against Thailand

Vietnam has successfully defended its ASEAN Championship title, securing a 4-2 aggregate victory over rivals Thailand after a tense 2-2 draw in the second leg of the final. The match, held in Hanoi, saw Vietnam twice come from behind to secure the coveted trophy for the fourth time in the biennial competition's 30-year history.

Thailand initially took the lead at the My Dinh National Stadium with a strike from Yotsakon Burapha. However, their hopes of overturning a first-leg deficit were further hampered when Kakana Khamyok missed a crucial penalty early in the second half. This miss proved costly as Vietnam equalized shortly after, aided by an own goal from Thai goalkeeper Chatchai Bootprom.

Despite Thailand managing to regain the lead late in the game through Wanchai Jarunongkran, Vietnam's resilience shone through. The final blow came in stoppage time when an own goal by Wanchai sealed Vietnam's victory and secured the championship title on home soil.

Vietnam's Brazil-born winger Hendrio expressed his pride and joy following the win. "It's something amazing," he said. "I waited for this moment a long time. It's a pleasure. I feel so proud. We did a very good job. I worked so hard to be here and I'm very happy I can help the team to get this cup here in Vietnam in Hanoi."
