Vietnam commemorates 84th anniversary of General Secretary Lê Hồng Phong’s death

Nghệ An marked the 84th anniversary of the death of Lê Hồng Phong with a flower and incense offering in Hưng Nguyên Nam on Sept. 7. Local Party Secretary Nguyễn Khắc Thận, who also heads the province’s National Assembly delegation, attended the ceremony.

Lê Hồng Phong, described at the ceremony as a steadfast communist and an outstanding student of President Hồ Chí Minh, died at Côn Đảo prison 84 years ago, on the 26th day of the Year of the Horse in the lunar calendar. The commemoration honored his contributions to the Party, the Vietnamese revolution and the international communist and workers’ movement.

He lived for 40 years and spent more than two decades in continuous revolutionary activity. The article portrays his life as a model of patriotism, revolutionary ideals, political resolve and sacrifice, saying his spirit and steadfast character remain alive in the national memory.

The ceremony also aimed to pass on patriotic traditions and revolutionary ideals, while strengthening pride, confidence and responsibility among officials, Party members, residents and young people. Students visited the Lê Hồng Phong Memorial Site in Hưng Nguyên Nam, where records of his childhood, development and revolutionary activities are preserved.

Born in 1902 as Lê Huy Dục, later Lê Huy Doãn, he came from Đông village in what is now Hưng Nguyên Nam commune, Nghệ An province. The memorial site was recognized as a national historical and cultural monument in 1990.
