Vietnam Continues Search for Mass Soldier Grave at Xuan Son Hill

Vietnamese authorities are maintaining a full deployment of personnel at Xuan Son Hill in Gia Lai province to continue the search for a suspected mass grave of fallen soldiers. The operation, dubbed "Operation 500 Days and Nights," is proceeding without holiday breaks.

Specialized ground-penetrating radar equipment and expert personnel from the Ministry of Defense have been deployed to aid the search. These tools help identify disturbances in the soil that may indicate the presence of remains. Data from the radar scans is currently being analyzed.

The search is focused on a second potential burial site. A previous excavation in 2022, prompted by information from a former U.S. soldier, uncovered 60 sets of remains from a first site at Xuan Son Hill. Historical records indicate a fierce battle occurred there in December 1966, resulting in heavy casualties on both sides.

Provincial authorities have directed the military command to consolidate all information related to the suspected mass grave, including witness accounts, historical documents, and field survey results. The use of technology, including AI and drones, is being encouraged to assist in data analysis and identification.

The search is part of the 'Operation 500 Days and Nights' campaign, so the participating forces work continuously, without holidays, maintaining 100% strength. Specifically at Xuan Son Hill, 18 officers and soldiers are directly involved in the search.
