Vietnam Farmers' Union Congress Opens with Focus on Modernization and Rural Development

The 9th Congress of the Vietnam Farmers' Union convened with a significant display of state support, attended by top Party and State leaders including National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Standing Secretary of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu. The event marks a crucial moment for the nation's agricultural sector and its farming community.

Lương Quốc Đoàn, Chairman of the Vietnam Farmers' Union Central Committee, highlighted the substantial achievements of the past term. He noted that farmers and union members had overcome numerous challenges through diligence, creativity, and solidarity. A majority of key performance indicators were met or surpassed, and important policy proposals were approved by the Prime Minister, fostering innovation within the union and the broader farmers' movement. The union's activities have become more practical and effective, with patriotic emulation movements gaining traction and improving farmers' political awareness and production skills.

Despite these successes, Đoàn acknowledged existing limitations. He pointed to the need for better support in developing supply chains, cooperatives, and digital transformation within the union's operations. Furthermore, he noted that a segment of union officials struggle to keep pace with the demands of their roles, particularly when implementing activities under new organizational structures.

Looking ahead, the congress takes place as Vietnam enters a new development phase, characterized by both opportunities and challenges. The Farmers' Union is actively implementing the resolutions of the 14th Party Congress and strategic directives from the Politburo, including Resolution No. 46, which focuses on modernizing the union's activities. Đoàn emphasized the directive to develop "green rural livelihoods - digital agriculture - value chains," integrated with collective economic development, to meet the evolving needs of the farmers' movement. He stressed the imperative for the union to innovate its content and methods, enhance operational quality, and effectively represent and protect farmers' legitimate rights and interests, serving as a vital bridge between farmers, the Party, and the State.

Therefore, the requirement for the Vietnam Farmers' Union at all levels is to strongly innovate content and methods, improve quality and effectiveness of operations. Do well the role of representative, caring for, and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of members and farmers. Promote the role of a solid bridge between farmers and the Party, the State, and participate in building the Party, the political system, and the great national unity bloc on the foundation of consolidating the alliance of 'workers - farmers - intellectuals',... to contribute to the development of ecological agriculture, modern rural areas, civilized farmers, and join hands to develop the country quickly and sustainably.
