Vietnam Forecasts First Major Heatwave of June

Vietnam is bracing for its first major heatwave of the summer, with the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicting widespread high temperatures across northern and central regions starting June 1. This comes after a period of scattered showers and thunderstorms expected to continue until the end of May.

According to the center, areas in the North and North Central regions will see temperatures ranging from 37-39 degrees Celsius. Coastal areas of the South Central region will experience hot weather with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoons and evenings.

Mr. Nguyen Van Huong, head of the Weather Forecasting Department at the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, stated that the country's temperatures are expected to be 0.5-1.0 degrees Celsius higher than the multi-year average until the end of August due to the influence of El Nino. This year's summer is predicted to have more hot days and more frequent heatwaves compared to previous years and the multi-year average.
