Vietnam Leaders Convene Meeting Amid Global Uncertainty, Focus on Economic Stability

Vietnamese leaders convened for a crucial government meeting and virtual conference on July 4, focusing on navigating a complex global landscape. Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng opened the session by highlighting escalating geopolitical tensions, strategic competition among major powers, and increasing risks from climate change and non-traditional security threats. The conflict in the Middle East, he noted, has disrupted global trade and supply chains.

Domestically, Vietnam faces pressures to maintain macroeconomic stability, ensure energy security, and boost growth engines. Despite these challenges, the economy showed positive momentum in June and the second quarter, with each subsequent quarter outperforming the last. This progress provides a foundation for achieving the year's development goals.

In the country, alongside opportunities and advantages, there are not a few difficulties and great pressures in ensuring macroeconomic stability, ensuring energy security, promoting growth drivers, and restructuring the economy to meet the country's rapid and sustainable development requirements.

The conference aimed to thoroughly analyze the socio-economic situation in the first half of 2026, identify achievements, and address shortcomings. Participants were tasked with proposing comprehensive policy solutions, particularly focusing on institutional reforms to foster rapid and sustainable development. Key areas for breakthrough include unlocking state and societal resources, and promoting new drivers like science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation.
