Vietnam pushes digital transformation in agriculture to build professional farmers

Vietnam's agricultural sector, while a crucial pillar of the economy and a major global exporter, faces significant hurdles. These include fragmented, small-scale production methods, weak inter-enterprise linkages, and the persistent problem of "good harvest, low price." Environmental pollution in rural areas also remains a concern.

In response, the Communist Party's 14th National Congress has outlined a strategy to restructure the rural economy. The focus is on developing green, ecological, and circular production models centered around value chains. The goal is to foster large-scale production of high-quality goods with significant added value, supported by deep processing and strong product branding.

Party officials are emphasizing the need to build a civilized and professional farming class. This involves enhancing farmers' self-reliance, resilience, and aspirations for advancement. Farmers are expected to become the primary drivers of agricultural and rural development, actively participating in building new rural areas.

To achieve these goals, the Vietnam Farmers' Union is tasked with innovating its activities. This includes intensifying the application of science, technology, and digital transformation in agricultural production. The aim is to standardize processes, ensure quality, improve traceability, and guarantee food safety to meet the stringent demands of international markets. The party and state affirm their commitment to supporting the union and its members, urging all sectors of society to facilitate the union's effective operation.
