Vietnam's foreign policy must showcase national bravery, identity, and stature

Vietnamese foreign policy must actively demonstrate the nation's bravery, distinct identity, and international stature, according to top Party and State leaders. The recent Politburo Resolution 06, focusing on implementing the Party's foreign policy guidelines for the 14th Congress, sets ambitious goals for Vietnam's engagement with the world.

General Secretary and President Tô Lâm, speaking at a conference on the resolution, stressed that foreign affairs are a crucial and ongoing task. He highlighted that Vietnam's diplomacy in this new era reflects innovative thinking and aims to realize national strategic objectives. The goal is to build a peaceful, independent, democratic, prosperous, civilized, and happy Vietnam, moving steadily towards socialism.

"Foreign affairs is a 'crucial, regular' task," Lâm stated, emphasizing its position at the forefront and center of national efforts. He outlined that diplomacy is not only a tool for protecting national interests but also a means to showcase Vietnam's mettle, identity, and stature internationally. It serves to spread Vietnamese civilized values and foster respect, trust, and influence within the global community.

The resolution underscores a strategy based on strategic autonomy and self-reliance. It prioritizes the nation's interests above all else, places citizens at the center of all policies, and views contributions to the international community as a responsibility. This diplomatic endeavor is presented as a collective effort involving the entire Party and nation, leveraging the combined strength of the political system.

Looking ahead, Resolution 06 identifies five major directions for foreign affairs. These include proactively preventing crises from their source to create a favorable international environment, making diplomacy a driving force for new development spaces, and organically linking it with socio-economic progress. Furthermore, Vietnam will actively participate in and contribute to resolving global issues, enhancing its role in multilateral mechanisms, and elevating its national position to match its historical significance and cultural identity.
