Vietnam's Ministry of Home Affairs surveys proposal for 13 new wards in Cà Mau

A delegation from Vietnam's Ministry of Home Affairs, led by Deputy Minister Trương Hải Long, has conducted an on-site survey of Cà Mau province to assess a proposal for establishing 13 new wards. The initiative aims to upgrade existing communes into urban administrative units, a move intended to improve governance and stimulate socio-economic development.

The Cà Mau Provincial Department of Home Affairs has identified Sông Đốc, Năm Căn, Gành Hào, Hòa Bình, Cái Nước, Đầm Dơi, Thới Bình, Trần Văn Thời, Phước Long, Hồng Dân, Vĩnh Lợi, Lương Thế Trân, and Cái Đôi Vàm as the communes proposed for elevation to ward status. Officials stated that these areas play a crucial role in the province's development strategy, serving as centers for growth and connectivity. Establishing wards is expected to align administrative models with the actual urban characteristics of these localities, enhancing state management efficiency and facilitating resource mobilization.

During the review, the inter-agency delegation preliminarily assessed that most of the proposed areas largely meet the criteria for ward establishment. However, some localities still have unmet criteria or require further revision. Deputy Minister Trương Hải Long stressed the need for Cà Mau to provide clearer explanations regarding population size, functions, and locations of each proposed ward. He also urged for precise data consolidation across the proposal documents. The ministry highlighted that beyond meeting minimum numerical standards, the future administrative capacity and actual development of the governing bodies post-transition are of paramount importance.
