Vietnam's President hosts Qualcomm CEO, discusses tech investment

President To Lam met with Cristiano Amon, President and CEO of Qualcomm, in Hanoi, underscoring Vietnam's strategic shift towards self-reliant, innovative, and sustainable development. The nation is prioritizing science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, including national artificial intelligence strategies, as its primary growth engines.

Lam emphasized Vietnam's welcoming stance towards foreign investment, particularly from leading global technology firms like Qualcomm. He affirmed the country's commitment to facilitating favorable conditions for investment, technology transfer, and the development of high-quality human resources. The President specifically welcomed Qualcomm's continued expansion and long-term investment in Vietnam.

Amon acknowledged Qualcomm's extensive R&D and innovation support in Vietnam over the past two decades. He noted the company's current strategy to advance new technologies, especially AI and semiconductors, and its plan to expand R&D activities within the country. Amon praised Vietnam's vision and policies for promoting technological advancement and digital transformation.

President Lam urged Qualcomm to further broaden its long-term investments in areas such as AI, semiconductors, 5G/6G, and data centers. He also encouraged increased technology transfer, management expertise sharing, and expanded collaboration with Vietnamese businesses and academic institutions. Qualcomm's support for local firms to enhance their technological capabilities and integrate into global value chains was also discussed.

Amon stated that Qualcomm aims to establish Vietnam as its third-largest global R&D center for AI. He expressed his admiration for Vietnam's development achievements and its growing attractiveness to international businesses. Amon believes these successes position Vietnam to become a significant hub for high-tech manufacturing, research, innovation, and the digital economy in the region.
