Vietnam stresses cybersecurity as vital mission for entire political system

Ensuring cybersecurity is a vital, strategic mission for Vietnam's entire political system, not solely the responsibility of specialized forces, according to senior officials. This emphasis was underscored at a recent workshop and practical drill organized by the Quang Ngai Provincial Police, the standing body of the provincial cybersecurity subcommittee.

The event, held on August 11, focused on training and disseminating legal frameworks related to cybersecurity and data security. It culminated in a live drill simulating responses to cyber threats within the province, with plans extending to 2026. Colonel Nguyen Thanh Long, Deputy Director of the Quang Ngai Provincial Police, addressed the attendees, highlighting the escalating scale, frequency, and danger of cyberattacks.

Colonel Long pointed out that the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into attack tools is transforming the landscape, enabling malicious actors to create sophisticated phishing schemes and deploy automated malware with unprecedented speed and effectiveness. He warned that the consequences of a cybersecurity incident extend beyond operational disruptions, potentially leading to the loss of personal data and state secrets, thereby eroding trust in the government's digital transformation efforts.

He acknowledged that increasing reliance on digital environments poses significant risks to national security, public order, and the stability of the political system.

The two-day exercise, involving 12 teams, two attack teams (Red Team) and ten defense teams (Blue Team), simulated real-world cyberattacks on operational information systems within provincial data centers. The drill aimed to analyze and assess responses to cyber threats targeting Party and state agency information systems in Quang Ngai. The scenarios were designed to be scientifically sound and closely aligned with current realities and the evolving demands of the situation.
