Vietnam Traffic Police Report Improved Driver Behavior During Holiday

Traffic police in Vietnam reported a noticeable improvement in driver behavior on the first day of the September 2 National Day holiday. Despite a surge in vehicles on the roads, a majority of drivers demonstrated increased awareness. They maintained safe distances between vehicles, stayed within their designated lanes, and complied with speed limits. This adherence to traffic rules led to a marked reduction in incidents of speeding, illegal lane changes, and other dangerous maneuvers.

The Directorate of Traffic Police stated that this improved conduct helped to limit the risk of collisions and accidents, ensuring a more stable flow of traffic. Specifically, on the high-speed routes managed by the 3rd and 4th high-speed traffic police teams, enforcement actions were taken. The 3rd team processed three violations, including one case of not maintaining a safe distance and two instances of using the emergency lane. The 4th team handled three cases of failing to keep a safe distance.

In the first day of the National Day 2.9 holiday, despite the high volume of vehicles, most drivers have been conscious of keeping their distance, staying in the correct lane, and adhering to speed limits, and the situation of speeding, encroaching on lanes, and continuous lane changing has decreased significantly.

Authorities noted that from August 26 to the present, these two units have already addressed 19 violations related to safe following distances. Looking ahead, the Directorate of Traffic Police plans to intensify public awareness campaigns and continue strict enforcement against drivers who fail to maintain safe distances. The goal is to foster safer driving habits, reduce distance-related accidents, and enhance traffic capacity on expressways.

In related news, the Directorate of Traffic Police announced that starting March 1, 2027, new practical driving tests will be implemented. These tests will focus on assessing drivers' ability to apply traffic laws and their skills in real-world traffic conditions. Emphasis will be placed on adherence to traffic rules, observation, situational response, maintaining safe distances, lane changes, and overtaking.
