Vietnamese authorities arrest Facebook user for allegedly defaming court and bank

Authorities in Can Tho City, Vietnam, have arrested Ly Tín Phước, 46, for allegedly using his Facebook account to post content that harmed the interests of the state and legal organizations. The arrest comes after the People's Court of Region 1 filed a complaint with the police regarding the Facebook account 'Tphuoc Ly'. Police investigators confirmed they have initiated a case and detained Phước, who resides in Cai Khế ward, Can Tho City. The investigation aims to clarify his alleged actions of exploiting freedoms of speech to infringe upon the legitimate rights and interests of organizations and individuals. The court's complaint specifically cited content posted by the 'Tphuoc Ly' account that allegedly infringed upon the court's interests. During their investigation, law enforcement determined that Phước operated the 'Tphuoc Ly' Facebook account. The account reportedly published numerous posts concerning various organizations and individuals, including the People's Court of Region 1, the People's Court of Can Tho City, and Vietcombank's Can Tho branch. Some of these posts allegedly used information and images related to the operations of these entities, accompanied by Phước's own assessments and accusations that insulted the honor and reputation of those involved. These contents were publicly shared on social media. According to the investigation, Ly Tín Phước is a defendant in a civil lawsuit concerning a credit contract dispute between himself and a branch of a bank in Can Tho. The case was being handled by the People's Court of Region 1. Phước had appealed the court's decision, but his appeal reportedly did not fully adhere to the required procedures. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
