Vietnamese Company Director Arrested for Drugs, Gambling, and Illegal Invoicing

Authorities in Hai Phong, Vietnam, have arrested Nguyen Van Nam, the director of Dai Nam Construction Materials and Transport Co., Ltd., initiating an investigation into his alleged involvement in drug-related offenses, illegal gambling, and illicit invoice trading. The arrest is part of a broader crackdown on criminal activities operating under the guise of legitimate businesses.

According to the Hai Phong Police, investigations revealed that Nam, 38, allegedly used his company, established in 2021, as a cover for extensive illegal activities. These included the fraudulent sale of value-added tax (VAT) invoices, generating significant illicit profits. Nam also reportedly engaged in the purchase and transportation of construction materials, including sand, from unverified sources. Furthermore, a karaoke establishment owned by Nam was identified as a site for illegal drug use.

In addition to Nam, several associates have been prosecuted. Pham Quang Hoan, 35, faces charges for organizing drug use and possession. Doan Quang Duy, 36, is charged with organizing gambling, while Pham Quang Hung, 50, director of Binh Dan Company, is accused of illegal invoice trading. Other individuals, including Tạ Kim Oanh, Trần Thị Vân Anh, Nguyễn Thị Tính, and Trần Thị Minh Yến, are being investigated for illegal invoice trading. Truck drivers for Dai Nam Construction Materials and Transport Co., Ltd., Nguyen Huu Luc and Dang Van Uy, are also facing charges related to illegal gambling.
