Vietnamese doctor sets national record with 100 robotic urological surgeries

Dr. Nguyen Hoang Duc, head of Urology and Andrology at Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, has achieved a significant milestone, setting a Vietnamese record for performing 100 robotic-assisted urological surgeries within a single year. The distinction was officially recognized by the Vietnam Record Organization (VietKings).

The ceremony, held on June 16, saw Professor-Academician Hoang Quang Thuan, President of the Vietnam Record Organization, present the award. Professor Thuan lauded the achievement as a new milestone for Vietnamese medicine, underscoring the importance of investing in advanced medical equipment and high-technology applications. He noted that the Da Vinci Xi robotic system enhances surgical precision, minimizes invasiveness, speeds up patient recovery, and improves treatment outcomes.

Professor Thuan stated that Dr. Duc's accomplishment, along with the efforts of Tam Anh General Hospital, demonstrates not only a record-breaking number but also the medical team's expertise, innovative spirit, and dedication to public health. He added that this success reflects the robust development of Vietnam's medical sector in its international integration, showcasing the capability of Vietnamese doctors to master and apply cutting-edge global technologies.

Dr. Duc shared that his interest in robotic surgery began in 2003 while studying in Singapore. The technology's precision and ability to preserve patient function deeply impressed him, inspiring a desire to implement it widely in Vietnam. Despite initial limitations in the country, he pursued this goal, culminating in this record-setting year. The advanced technological ecosystem at Tam Anh General Hospital has enabled him to fulfill his ambition of mastering robotic surgery.
