Vietnamese Fisherman Rescued at Sea and Brought Ashore Safely

Fisherman Nguyễn Xuân Tùng has been safely returned to the mainland after sustaining a severe injury while working at sea. The naval vessel Trường Sa 08 completed a two-day journey, bringing Tùng back to shore on June 19, where he was handed over to his family for continued medical care.

The incident occurred on June 14 around 8 p.m. while Tùng, 43, was fishing aboard the vessel BĐ 99269 TS. A heavy fishing net, caught in large waves, severed his right leg above the knee. He subsequently fell into the sea. After being brought back onto the fishing boat, his condition was stabilized, and the captain decided to take him to the Trường Sa Island infirmary for immediate treatment.

At the infirmary, medical staff diagnosed Tùng with hemorrhagic shock due to the severed lower right leg and a fractured right femur. Sailors, soldiers, and island residents donated blood to help save him. Following consultation, the medical team decided to transfer him to the mainland for further treatment.

Upon receiving the request, the Trường Sa 08 was dispatched. The ship quickly reached the injured fisherman and coordinated with the infirmary to transport Tùng and his relative to the mainland. His health and spirits are reported to be stable. His family has since taken him to the Military Hospital 175 in Ho Chi Minh City for ongoing care. Tùng's relative expressed deep gratitude to the naval officers and soldiers for their timely rescue and care.
