Vietnamese Livestreamer Prosecuted, Claims 'More Cursing Equals More Views'

Livestreamer Khanh Sky, whose real name is Nguyen Van Hoi, has been prosecuted in Vietnam for public disorder and abusing democratic freedoms, according to Thanh Niên newspaper. The 34-year-old, originally from Hung Yen province, faces charges related to his online activities.

During questioning, Khanh Sky admitted that his motivation for livestreaming was to increase his viewership. He stated his belief that "the more you curse, the more views you get," which led him to engage in increasingly provocative behavior. He explained that he went to the workshop of another individual, known as "Vua Quat" (King of Fans), specifically to livestream an event that was attracting attention, seeing it as an opportunity to boost his online presence.

Khanh Sky is not the only one facing charges. Ho Van Khoa, 34, from Hanoi but residing in Bac Ninh, was also prosecuted for public disorder. Tran Dinh Tiep, known as "Vua Quat," faces charges of exploiting freedoms to infringe upon state interests and the rights of organizations and individuals. Both Khoa and Tiep also admitted to livestreaming for the purpose of gaining engagement, likes, and ultimately, sales.

Investigators found that the three individuals repeatedly engaged in livestreams featuring offensive content and mutual insults, aiming to increase their viewership and expand their influence on social media. The livestreams reportedly spread widely, negatively impacting public opinion and the reputation of those involved, as well as affecting online security and order. Khanh Sky and Khoa were also accused of planning and instigating disturbances at Tran Dinh Tiep's home.
