Vietnamese Man Sentenced to 3 Years for Attempted Murder Over Bathroom Dispute

A court in South Korea has sentenced a 20-year-old Vietnamese man to three years in prison for attempting to murder his colleague. The dispute arose over a trivial matter: the defendant allegedly opened the bathroom door while his colleague was using it.

The incident took place on June 1, at approximately 00:20 AM, in a shared residence in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province. The defendant, identified as A, and the victim, B, were colleagues who lived together in the same dormitory. An argument escalated from the bathroom door incident into a verbal exchange involving insults.

The defendant repeatedly stabbed the victim in vital areas with a knife, posing a critical threat to life, due to the victim allegedly assaulting him. The crime is of a bad nature.

During the altercation, A reportedly went to the kitchen, retrieved a knife, and attacked B, stabbing him multiple times in the neck and throat with the intent to kill. The court acknowledged that the defendant's actions posed a severe threat to the victim's life.

In its sentencing, the court considered the severity of the crime, noting that the defendant repeatedly stabbed the victim in vital areas. However, the court also took into account A's remorse and the fact that he reached a settlement with the victim, paying 15 million Korean won (approximately $11,000 USD). These factors contributed to the final three-year prison sentence.
