Vilnius launches initiative offering public transport vouchers for children opening bank accounts

As the new school year approaches, JUDU, Vilnius's public transport operator, and SEB bank have partnered to encourage financial literacy and sustainable travel habits among young residents. The initiative offers a tangible incentive for families to engage with these important life skills.

From August 3 to August 31, parents or guardians can open a bank account for children aged 7 to 13 through SEB's internet bank. Upon successful account opening, they will receive a JUDU voucher, which can be used for public transport tickets in Vilnius. This voucher can be applied towards various ticket options, including an annual pass for daily commutes to school or activities.

Jurgita Gaidienė, Head of Customer Value Creation at JUDU, highlighted the program's aim to foster independence by combining financial education with safe and independent urban mobility. She emphasized that public transport in Vilnius is presented as a convenient, safe, and sustainable choice for young people.

Sigita Strockytė-Varnė, a personal finance expert at SEB bank, noted that a child's first bank account is a significant step toward learning financial responsibility. This initiative complements that by providing a practical reward linked to everyday experiences, encouraging children to apply their financial knowledge in real-world situations.
