Vilnius requires 'Ukrainian Card' for free public transport from September

Starting September 1, Ukrainian refugees in Vilnius will need a special "Ukrainian Card" to continue using public transport free of charge. This new requirement aims to ensure the smooth application of the benefit and improve its administration, while also preventing potential misuse.

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Vilnius has offered free public transport – buses and trolleybuses – to individuals who have fled the conflict and relocated to Lithuania. The Vilnius City Municipality Council decided to issue these "Ukrainian Cards" at the end of last year.

The cards began being issued on March 1, 2026, with a transitional period extending until August 31. From September 1, the "Ukrainian Card" becomes mandatory for anyone wishing to utilize this transportation concession.

Those who have not yet collected their personalized "Ukrainian Card" are encouraged to do so promptly. The cards can be obtained at JUDU customer service centers located at Geležinkelio g. 16 (at the train station), Gedimino pr. 9A, or Konstitucijos pr. 3.
