Violence persists in Mazatlán despite holiday security operation; two killed, one injured

Mazatlán experienced a surge of violence during the summer vacation period, with two homicides and one serious injury reported despite an intensified security operation. The incidents occurred in various parts of the city, including the downtown area and the Bellavista neighborhood, where a man was found dead. Another man was shot and wounded while riding a motorcycle in Lomas de Mazatlán and required hospitalization.

Authorities reported that during the night of Friday and early Saturday, there were explosions and gunfire in different areas of Mazatlán, resulting in two deaths. The Secretary of Public Security announced the arrest of four armed individuals, one of whom sustained an injury and received medical attention.

In a separate incident in the Pradera Dorada Sexta Etapa neighborhood, police rescued two individuals who had been held captive, bound and blindfolded. Four people were arrested in connection with this incident, including three minors. The ongoing violence highlights persistent security challenges in the region, even during periods of increased police presence.
