Visa fraud: Immigration boss not under probe – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has firmly dismissed media reports and online insinuations suggesting that the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, is under investigation for alleged visa racketeering. The anti-graft agency clarified that Nandap is not involved in any ongoing probe related to visa fraud.

In a statement issued by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the EFCC acknowledged that it is investigating visa fraud involving certain immigration officers. However, the commission explicitly stated, "The commission wishes to state unequivocally that it has no case with the Immigration CG." This clarification aims to correct misinformation circulating in the media.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is aware of reports in the media about alleged visa racketeering involving some officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service, especially subtle insinuations about the assumed investigation of the Comptroller-General of the Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap.

The EFCC confirmed that criminal proceedings are already underway in the Federal High Court against some immigration officers implicated in alleged visa fraud. Investigations are ongoing, and the commission indicated that more NIS officers could face arraignment for fraudulent practices in the future. The agency also advised journalists to verify information with the EFCC before publication to prevent misrepresentation of its operations.
