Visaginas Mayor Shocked by Death of Politician Šuklinas: 'Cannot Believe It'

Visaginas Mayor Eimantas Galaguzas expressed profound shock and sorrow upon hearing of the death of politician Jevgenijus Šuklinas, who passed away at the age of 40.

"Shock. Sadness. Disbelief. We were all shaken by the tragic news – I sincerely sympathize with Jevgenijus Šuklinas' wife, mother, and all relatives. Loved ones always leave too soon, and when the deceased has just turned 40 – it is especially difficult. May God help you endure this difficult period. We will be by your side," Galaguzas wrote on Facebook.

Šuklinas' death at the age of 41 has prompted widespread condolences from Lithuania's top officials, including President Gitanas Nausėda, Speaker of the Seimas Juozas Olekas, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė, and the leader of the Liberal Movement party, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen.

Šuklinas entered the Seimas in 2024 representing the Liberal Movement party and was a member of its faction. Previously, he served on the Visaginas Municipality Council and briefly as acting mayor. He was also a notable athlete, competing as a canoeist in the 2012 London Olympics and winning medals at World and European championships before transitioning to business and politics. Šuklinas was born in Glazov, Russia, in 1985.
