Vita Barbić leads javelin qualifiers for World Junior Athletics Championships final

Croatian javelin thrower Vita Barbić dominated the qualification round at the World Junior Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon. She secured her place in the final with a leading throw of 56.29 meters, surpassing the direct qualification mark of 53.50 meters. Barbić, considered one of the favorites, achieved this mark in her second attempt.

While Barbić celebrated her success, fellow Croatian competitors faced challenges. Lina Filipović also competed in the javelin throw but finished 23rd with a throw of 46.37 meters, failing to qualify for the final. In the 100m hurdles, Jana Bujan placed 52nd with a time of 14.32 seconds, not advancing to the semifinals. The 200m event saw Nina Vrdoljak finish 47th with a personal best of 24.21 seconds, and Nevia Fotak placed 52nd with 24.31 seconds, neither progressing.

Mihael Bartolinčić was the last Croatian representative of the day, competing in the men's 200m qualifiers. He finished 37th overall with a time of 21.23 seconds, also failing to reach the semifinals. The championships featured a large field, with 75 athletes competing in the women's 200m event alone.
