Vita Barbić wins silver at World Junior Athletics Championships

Vita Barbić secured Croatia's 17th medal at the World Junior Athletics Championships, earning a silver in the javelin throw in Eugene, USA. This marks her first world championship medal, complementing her three European Championship accolades, including titles in the U18 and U20 categories, and a bronze in discus.

Barbić, who previously finished fourth at the World Juniors in Peru two years prior, was visibly emotional after that competition. Despite being three years younger than her competitors, she was disappointed by a narrow miss. Her coach's prediction of a future podium finish proved accurate this time.

Beyond her athletic achievements, Barbić emphasizes the importance of presentation, often using makeup and decorative pearls on her face. She believes this personal presentation enhances her performance and raises awareness for the competition. Her journey in athletics began at age six, influenced by her older sister Klara, and she developed a passion for the sport despite initially disliking running.

Croatia finished 31st in the medal standings at this year's championship, with Slovenia being the only other former Yugoslavian country to secure a medal. Historically, Croatia ranks 25th in the all-time medal table for this event, surpassing athletic powerhouses like Japan, the Netherlands, and Spain.
