Volcanic ash subsides, Jakarta schools to resume in-person classes tomorrow

Schools across Jakarta will return to in-person learning on Wednesday, September 9, after the spread of volcanic ash in the capital eased.

The Jakarta provincial government said remote learning ended on Tuesday, September 8. Governor Pramono Anung said he had ordered the education department to issue a circular formalizing the return to normal classes.

“One thing is that remote learning ends, and schools return to normal tomorrow. I have asked the head of the Education Department to immediately issue the circular,” Pramono said in Jakarta on Tuesday afternoon.

He said volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau had subsided in the Jakarta area. The airport, which had also been affected by the ash, resumed operations on Tuesday morning. Pramono described the normalization of flights as one indicator that conditions had improved.
