Vozinha Keeps a Clean Sheet in Colo-Colo League Debut

At 40, Cape Verde goalkeeper Josimar José Évora Dias, known as Vozinha, added another unusual chapter to his career by keeping a clean sheet in his first Chilean league appearance.

Vozinha drew 0-0 with Huachipato at the Ester Roa Rebolledo stadium in Concepción, extending his unbeaten run in the Colo-Colo goal to 180 minutes. He wore the club’s traditional yellow goalkeeper kit, the same color associated with his standout performances for Cape Verde at the 2026 World Cup.

The match was played in difficult conditions as persistent rain affected the field in southern Chile. Colo-Colo controlled possession and territory for long periods, limiting the goalkeeper’s workload while supporters in the stadium applauded him several times.

His only major scare came near the end of the first half. A high cross slipped from his hands as he came out, and the resulting shot had to be cleared almost off the line by Arturo Vidal. The danger passed when the play was ruled offside against the Huachipato attacker.

Coach Fernando Ortiz first included Vozinha on the bench for the Aug. 23 derby against Universidad de Chile. His decision to start the goalkeeper has brought defensive solidity, although the goalless draw cost Colo-Colo points in its attempt to pull further clear. The club remains firmly at the top with 53 points, 14 ahead of Universidad Católica and Universidad de Chile, who share second place on 39 after weekend wins over Everton and Coquimbo Unido.
