Vucic pledges to decorate firefighters

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has vowed to honor firefighters for their courageous efforts in combating the significant wildfire raging in the Deliblato Sands nature reserve. The president stated that the firefighters would receive the decorations they rightfully deserve for their dedication to extinguishing the blaze.

The firefighting operation has garnered international support. A Russian Il-76 aircraft is assisting the crews, alongside four Black Hawk helicopters provided by the European Union through its Civil Protection Mechanism. This collaborative effort highlights the severity of the wildfire and the need for extensive resources.

In addition to the international aid, Serbia's own fire services are actively engaged. The Serbian Internal Affairs Ministry has deployed two Kamov firefighting helicopters. These aircraft are crucial in battling the Deliblato Sands fire and another substantial blaze currently active on Mt Stolovi in central Serbia, showcasing the demanding conditions faced by emergency responders across the country.
