Vuelta 2026, Stage 16: Kolumb Heads Toward America as Roglič Starts in Red

The final week of the Vuelta a España begins with a stage built for the sprinters. The 181.1-kilometre route from Cortegana to La Rábida starts with hilly terrain before becoming almost entirely flat.

Sprint teams are expected to control the race and give the faster riders a clean chance without more climbs beforehand. The finish comes at the La Rábida monastery in Palos de la Frontera, the place from which Christopher Columbus began his historic journey toward America in 1492.

If the stage ends in a sprint, riders will need to judge their effort carefully because the final kilometre rises slightly. Visma-Lease a Bike rider Matthew Brennan is again named as the leading candidate for victory, after recently speaking out about severe heat. Primož Roglič begins the final week with high expectations.
