VW ID.Buzz Celebrates Japan Anniversary with Doraemon Collaboration

Volkswagen is celebrating the first anniversary of its electric ID.Buzz van in Japan with the introduction of a special "1st Anniversary Edition." This limited-run model, with only 70 units available, aims to commemorate the milestone with exclusive styling and features.

The ID.Buzz 1st Anniversary Edition boasts a distinctive candy white and metallic blue two-tone paint job. This color combination intentionally echoes the iconic colors of Doraemon, the beloved Japanese anime character. The van also sports unique 19- to 20-inch two-tone alloy wheels, designed to evoke the classic aesthetic of the original Volkswagen Type 1 (T1) van while adding a modern, dynamic flair.

Volkswagen Japan has partnered with Doraemon for a series of promotional activities surrounding the anniversary edition. This collaboration aims to generate buzz and appeal to a wide audience by associating the futuristic electric van with a universally recognized and cherished character.

Available in both standard Pro and Pro Long Wheelbase versions, the anniversary edition offers seating for six or seven passengers, respectively. The interior features a blue and white or all-white color scheme. Notably, the Long Wheelbase version comes standard with a panoramic glass sunroof, enhancing the sense of space and light within the cabin.

Under the hood, the ID.Buzz 1st Anniversary Edition is equipped with a single-motor rear-wheel-drive setup delivering 286 horsepower and 57.1 kgm of torque. Battery options include 84 kWh for the standard version and 91 kWh for the long wheelbase, providing estimated ranges of 524 to 554 kilometers. The special edition is priced between 9.797 million and 10.528 million Japanese yen, approximately $201,000 to $216,000 USD.
