Wartburgkreis seeks building blocks for accessible ramps

The Wartburgkreis district in Germany is calling for donations of small, interlocking building blocks to construct accessible ramps. This initiative, spearheaded by the Inclusion Network in the Wartburgkreis, aims to eliminate small barriers at the entrances of public buildings, shops, and other facilities.

The ramps will be built to bridge individual steps, making it easier for people who use wheelchairs or have other mobility challenges to access these locations. The collected blocks will be glued together to ensure stability and prevent them from dislodging during use. According to officials, each ramp requires approximately 50,000 to 70,000 blocks, and a completed ramp weighs around ten kilograms.

Donations are being accepted at various locations across Bad Salzungen, Eisenach, and Bad Liebenstein during their respective opening hours. Collection points include the district administration office and the city library in Eisenach. The project emphasizes that every donated block contributes to dismantling barriers and facilitating access for individuals with disabilities, thereby enhancing their daily lives and integration into the community.
