Water relief for families in Yasi Yasi settlement

Residents of the Yasi Yasi settlement in Nadi, Fiji, are experiencing a significant improvement in their daily lives with the completion of a new borehole project, ensuring easier access to clean and reliable water.

For generations, water shortages have been a persistent challenge for families in the settlement. Some residents resorted to using bullocks to transport water drums for drinking and cooking. Women often had to make long trips to a nearby river to wash clothes, and the limited water supply severely restricted backyard farming, confining it mostly to the rainy season.

The new borehole project, implemented under the Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs' community development program, now supplies clean and dependable water. This initiative directly benefits more than 30 individuals across six households within the Yasi Yasi settlement, alleviating long-standing difficulties.

The project marks a crucial step in enhancing the quality of life for the community, addressing a fundamental need and enabling greater self-sufficiency in water management and domestic activities.
