Wave of North Koreans in Russia: Mysterious Images Fuel Speculation of New Troops for Putin

A large group of North Koreans, uniformly dressed in black suits and white shirts, were recently filmed arriving in Russia. These images have intensified speculation about Pyongyang's potential new involvement in supporting Moscow's war efforts in Ukraine.

The footage, which went viral on social media, shows the men moving in an orderly fashion near a construction site, each carrying similar luggage. A Russian pro-Kremlin channel, Ostashko, reported that the group arrived from Pyongyang and is expected to work in the construction sector. The channel described their disciplined movement as indicative of a shared mission.

However, their precise role remains ambiguous. The arrival coincides with heightened speculation about additional North Korean personnel being transferred to Russia, potentially under a strategic agreement between Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un. Historically, North Korea has sent tens of thousands of workers abroad to fill labor shortages caused by military mobilization and war casualties.

Concerns have been amplified by the monitoring of military flights from Vladivostok, near the North Korean border. Several sources suggest these flights may have transported North Korean military personnel and equipment. These developments occur amid intelligence estimates indicating significant North Korean military casualties in the Ukraine conflict, with some sources suggesting between 2,000 and 3,000 soldiers lost.
