"We are not afraid": Sepsi OSK president addresses Romanians, mentions new Hungarian government

The president of Sepsi OSK, a Romanian football club with Hungarian identity, has addressed concerns about potential funding cuts from a new Hungarian government. Zoltán Szondy expressed his belief that the funding, which is tied to strict accountability conditions and used for beneficial purposes like strengthening national identity through sports, will likely continue.

"I don't think the new Hungarian government will actually abolish the academic support," Szondy stated. "We received it tied to strict accountability conditions, and we directed it towards a good cause; nothing strengthens national bonding better than sports. But if they do withdraw it, in the good Székely tradition, we will button up our coats again."

Szondy's comments come as both Sepsi OSK and FK Csíkszereda, two clubs with Hungarian roots, experienced defeats in the opening week of the Romanian football league. Sepsi OSK lost 1-0 away to Rapid Bucharest, while Csíkszereda suffered a 3-0 home defeat against Corvinul. This challenging start to the season adds to the club's focus on securing their financial and political support.
