“We Will Link the Railway Through Citizens’ Power”: Gwangmyeong Mayor Pushes for New Route

“We will definitely make it a reality through the power of citizens,” Gwangmyeong Mayor Park Seung-won said as the city began a full-scale campaign for the proposed Sincheon-Haan-Sillim line.

Gwangmyeong held a citizens’ resolution rally at city hall, attended by about 100 representatives from neighborhood groups and civic organizations. The event sought to unite public support for the route’s swift advancement and urge the government to include it in the national rail network plan.

Residents announced the formation of a citywide committee promoting the line and read out a resolution. They called for the project to be included in the fifth national rail network construction plan and urged the rapid advancement of a proposed private-investment metropolitan railway project for southwestern Seoul and the surrounding capital region.

The planned Sincheon-Haan-Sillim line would start at Sincheon Station in Siheung, pass through the Gwangmyeong-Siheung third new town and Gwangmyeong’s Haan-dong, then connect with Seoul’s Doksan and Sillim areas. Park said Gwangmyeong had changed and developed through residents’ wishes and efforts, promising to mobilize all available resources to turn the railway plan into reality with them.
