Weather: Rains and thunderstorms until Thursday – Temperature rising from Friday

Greece's weather will take a turn with local rain, showers, and thunderstorms expected from Tuesday, August 18, through Thursday, August 20. These phenomena will primarily occur during the afternoon hours in various regions.

According to meteorologist Giorgos Emmanouil, Tuesday's weather will affect areas like Epirus, Western and Central Sterea, the Peloponnese, the mountains of Northern Greece, the mountains of Crete, and mountainous regions of the Ionian Islands. Local showers are also possible in Attica, particularly over Mount Parnitha and Mount Hymettus. Winds will generally be light, reaching up to 5 Beaufort in the southern seas, with temperatures climbing to 34-36 degrees Celsius, and locally up to 37 degrees in the Thessalian Plain.

Wednesday, August 19, will see a slight further increase in temperature, reaching 35-37 degrees Celsius. Thunderstorms are expected to persist during the afternoon hours over the mainland mountains, from the Peloponnese to the Pindus mountain range. Eastern Macedonia and Thrace are anticipated to experience more significant rainfall.

By Thursday, August 20, the rain and thunderstorms are expected to be confined mainly to mountainous areas. Winds will shift to northerly, reaching up to 6 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea. From Friday, August 21, the weather pattern changes again as temperatures begin a gradual rise. The weekend is predicted to be particularly warm, with maximum temperatures potentially reaching 38 and 39 degrees Celsius in some locations, signaling a return to hotter, more summer-like conditions.
