Weather: Summer-like first September weekend, with temperatures returning to 38°C in some areas

The first weekend of September will feel distinctly like summer across Greece. Sunshine will dominate the country, and forecasters do not expect rain or other weather phenomena. Northern winds will remain strong, particularly over the Aegean, but the heat will build again from Sunday.

On Saturday, Sept. 5, skies will stay clear nationwide. Northern winds will reach 2 to 4 Beaufort in the Ionian and 4 to 6, locally 7, Beaufort in the Aegean. Temperatures will remain broadly unchanged, reaching 33°C to 35°C across most mainland areas and locally 36°C in the west. Island temperatures will range from 29°C to 33°C, with southern Crete and the Dodecanese locally reaching 34°C to 35°C.

Attica will remain sunny throughout the day, with temperatures from 21°C to 33°C and local highs of 34°C. Northerly winds will reach 3 to 5 Beaufort, locally 6 in eastern areas. Thessaloniki will also have clear skies, with temperatures between 20°C and 33°C and local highs of 34°C. Winds there will be variable at 2 to 4 Beaufort.

Sunday, Sept. 6, will bring another rise in temperatures. Sunshine will continue across the country, while winds will ease slightly, reaching up to 5 Beaufort in the Ionian and up to 6 in the Aegean. Temperatures will climb to 35°C to 37°C in most areas and locally 38°C, making the heat more noticeable without creating heatwave conditions.

Monday will remain generally sunny, with only brief afternoon cloud in mainland mountain areas and Thrace. Temperatures will dip slightly but stay high, reaching 34°C to 36°C in most regions and locally 37°C to 38°C in the west and south.
