Weather to change after unstable week start

Lithuania can expect a change in weather patterns following an unstable beginning to the week. Monday will be dominated by a low-pressure system across northeastern Europe, bringing intermittent clouds and sunshine. Scattered showers are likely in many regions, accompanied by potential thunderstorms, lightning, and wind gusts reaching up to 15 m/s during downpours.

Cooler temperatures will persist, with daytime highs reaching only 16-21 degrees Celsius on Monday due to dense clouds, rain, and a mass of cooler air. The wind will initially blow from the southwest and west before shifting to the northwest in the afternoon. Overnight, clouds are expected to thin out in many areas, leading to clearer skies, though some clouds will remain, bringing brief showers. Winds will subside, primarily from the west and northwest. Fog may form in some places as skies clear and winds calm. Temperatures will drop to 8-13 degrees Celsius overnight, with coastal areas remaining slightly warmer at 14-16 degrees.

Tuesday will see little change, with varied cloud cover and intermittent sunshine, along with brief showers across a larger part of the country. Moderate northwesterly winds are expected. Daytime temperatures will hover between 17-22 degrees Celsius. A more significant shift is anticipated for Wednesday as the low-pressure system moves away, allowing a high-pressure field to strengthen over the Baltic region. While clouds may increase during the day, rain is not expected. Overnight temperatures could fall sharply to 6-11 degrees Celsius, except for the Curonian Spit, where it will be warmer. Daytime temperatures will rise to 18-23 degrees Celsius.

Looking ahead to Thursday and Friday, clear nights are forecast, with clouds thickening during the day but without rain. Winds will remain light. Overnight temperatures will continue to be cool, around 5-10 degrees Celsius, again with warmer conditions on the Curonian Spit. Daytime temperatures will reach 18-23 degrees Celsius on Thursday. By Friday, a warmer air mass is expected to move in, pushing nighttime temperatures to 6-11 degrees Celsius (12-14 on the Curonian Spit) and bringing summer-like daytime temperatures of 20-25 degrees Celsius. Current data suggests that over the weekend, the high-pressure system will recede, allowing low-pressure systems to bring rain to many areas, though temperatures are not expected to drop significantly.
