Weekend Drug Busts Across Lithuania: Police Seize Large Quantities, Arrest Numerous Suspects

Lithuanian law enforcement reported a busy weekend of drug seizures, with police confiscating a substantial amount of narcotics and apprehending multiple individuals across the country. The operations targeted suspected drug trafficking and possession, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat illicit substances.

In Palanga, a routine traffic stop on August 1st led to the discovery of suspected plant-based narcotics in a vehicle. Later that evening in Klaipėda, a BMW car and one of its passengers were found to be in possession of small plastic bags containing suspicious substances, which were subsequently sent for expert analysis.

Further investigations into residential properties yielded more discoveries. In Kaunas, police found suspected narcotic or psychotropic substances in a man's apartment on August 1st. Another apartment in Kaunas was also searched, leading to the confiscation of more drugs.

The city of Panevėžys also saw drug-related arrests. Early on August 1st, officers found a bag containing white powder, suspected to be a narcotic substance, and arrested an intoxicated man. Later that evening, another young man was apprehended with a joint, identified as "grass."

Following midnight on August 2nd, several more individuals were detained in connection with drug possession. Searches of vehicles and individuals in Jurbarkas district and Palanga revealed more suspected narcotics. In Jonava, a vehicle check also resulted in the discovery of drugs. In all these cases, preliminary investigations have been initiated for illegal possession of narcotic or psychotropic substances without the intent to distribute.
