Wei Ping-cheng to Launch Campaign HQ Sept. 6; Wang Hui-mei Invited as Chair, Liu Ho-jan to Lead Policy Group

Changhua County Magistrate candidate Wei Ping-cheng is set to establish his campaign headquarters on September 6, signaling a ramp-up in the year-end election race. The Kuomintang (KMT) has invited current Changhua County Magistrate Wang Hui-mei to chair Wei's campaign committee, a move seen as crucial for consolidating local party support.

New Taipei Deputy Mayor Liu Ho-jan, who previously supported Wei's bid for the nomination, has agreed to lead Wei's policy white paper initiative. KMT Changhua County party chairman Hsiao Ching-tien confirmed these appointments, expressing confidence that Wang's political acumen would lead to active campaigning.

I believe that with Wang Hui-mei's political wisdom, as a party member, she will definitely actively participate in the campaign.

Wei faces challenges in name recognition and integrating local factions within the KMT. Party insiders view Wang as the KMT's most significant "big hen" in Changhua, and Wei's campaign theme of continuing Wang's policies makes her endorsement vital for rallying the party's base.

Wang Hui-mei released goodwill. Even if she has not officially agreed to take over as the head of the campaign headquarters, at least she is willing to return to the team. This is a good omen.

The KMT plans to hold three rallies on August 14 in Changhua City and Wang's home districts of Lukang and Fuxing to introduce candidates. Party chairwoman Cheng Li-wen will visit Changhua for the third time to support Wei. Wang Hui-mei's participation alongside Cheng will be a key indicator of party unity.

Despite ongoing discussions, Wang Hui-mei has not formally confirmed her role as campaign chair but has met with Wei to exchange views. Her presence at a recent Wanggong Fishing Festival event alongside Wei, standing prominently in the front row, was interpreted as a positive sign of her willingness to rejoin the campaign efforts.

Besides looking forward to Wang Hui-mei's support, I also hope that Legislator Hsieh Yi-feng, former Deputy Magistrate Hung Jung-chang, and Ko Cheng-fang, who competed for the party's nomination at the time, can jointly participate in the campaign work to consolidate party strength to face the year-end election.
