West Java DPRD pushes for sustainable forest management

West Java's Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) Commission II is advocating for sustainable forest management practices that consider both community needs and regulatory adherence. This initiative emerged during a hearing involving Perhutani, Palawi, and the Binamitra Cooperative.

Lina Ruslinawati, Deputy Chairperson of Commission II, highlighted the importance of a balanced approach. She noted that while communities require economic benefits from forest resources, the preservation of forests and existing regulations must not be overlooked. Ruslinawati pointed out that misinformation can occur, and new regulations from central authorities, enforced by Perhutani and Palawi, need to be upheld.

To prevent misunderstandings and potential conflicts, Ruslinawati stressed the necessity of clear communication regarding regulations. She expressed hope that Perhutani, Palawi, and the Binamitra Cooperative will collaborate to unify their perspectives and identify the best solutions. Cooperation remains open as long as all parties operate within legal frameworks.

Ruslinawati further emphasized that forest management partnerships should extend beyond mere business aspects. While business activities can provide economic advantages for companies and communities, they must proceed in tandem with environmental conservation efforts. She urged all parties involved in forest activities to adhere to designated land use and environmental guidelines to prevent ecological damage and mitigate risks like landslides. Compliance with regulations is crucial to ensure economic activities do not create new problems.
