Jokowi to visit Kupang this weekend, thousands in NTT await his arrival

President Joko Widodo, widely known as Jokowi, is set to visit Kupang in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Saturday, August 1, 2026. This trip is primarily aimed at bolstering support for the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), currently chaired by his youngest son, Kaesang Pangarep.

Christian Widodo, the head of PSI's NTT chapter, anticipates a warm reception, stating that thousands of local residents are eagerly awaiting the president's arrival. He has been inundated with inquiries from citizens keen to confirm Jokowi's schedule. "Every day, many people contact me to ask about Mr. Jokowi's attendance. They are very enthusiastic and can't wait to welcome him to Kupang City," Widodo said.

Widodo believes the high level of public interest demonstrates Jokowi's enduring appeal in NTT. He views the visit not just as a series of official engagements but as a valuable opportunity for the public to reconnect with the former president. The itinerary includes a morning walkathon with residents in the Car Free Day area on Jalan El Tari, followed by a Cultural Carnival and Elephant Carnival in the afternoon at Pantai Lahi Lai Bissi Koepan (LLBK).

In addition to community events, Jokowi is scheduled to participate in the PSI NTT Regional Coordination Meeting (Rakorda). Christian Widodo confirmed that all welcoming preparations are complete, with committees and various stakeholders finalizing logistical and coordination needs to ensure the smooth execution of all planned activities. This visit is part of Jokowi's broader political tour to various regions in support of PSI, a tour that commenced in Lampung in late June.
