West Java official backs governor's takeover of Quranic festival

West Java Provincial Assembly member Tina Wiryawati has endorsed Governor Dedi Mulyadi's decision to transfer the hosting of the 2027 Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran (MTQ) from Garut Regency to the provincial government. Wiryawati views this move as a necessary step to safeguard the religious event, especially given Garut's financial constraints.

"In my opinion, this decision is a form of West Java Provincial Government's care so that the MTQ implementation can still run optimally. Let's not let regional budget limitations become an obstacle for activities that have important value for the community," Wiryawati stated. She emphasized that the MTQ is more than just a competition for reciters; it serves as a vital platform for instilling love for the Quran in the younger generation, strengthening religious education, and building connections among communities across West Java.

Governor Mulyadi had previously announced the provincial government's assumption of the MTQ's organization, citing Garut's fiscal situation. This shift means the financial burden will not fall entirely on the designated host regency. The governor outlined that the opening ceremony is planned for Gedung Sate in Bandung City, with the closing event to be held at the Al Jabbar Grand Mosque.

Wiryawati expressed hope that this revised organizational structure will lead to a more successful MTQ 2027, providing enhanced opportunities for training Quranic reciters in West Java. She urged regencies and cities to continue preparing their contingents seriously for the competition. Wiryawati stressed the importance of synergy to ensure continuous Quranic recitation development at the regional level, producing high-quality participants. "The most important thing is not just the success of the organization, but how this MTQ can continue to be part of the development of the younger generation and strengthen religious values and togetherness of the people of West Java," she said.
