West Sulawesi Holds 'Cheap Food Movement' Ahead of Idul Adha

The West Sulawesi provincial government is implementing measures to control inflation and stabilize food prices, particularly ahead of the upcoming Idul Adha holiday. A "Cheap Food Movement" (GPM) event was held in Mamuju on Tuesday to ensure the community has access to affordable essential food supplies.

Suyuti Marzuki, head of the West Sulawesi Provincial Food Agency, stated that the GPM demonstrates the government's commitment to assisting citizens in meeting their food needs during the festive period. "Ahead of national religious holidays, there is usually an increase in public demand for staple foods. Therefore, the government is present through the GPM so that people can obtain food at more affordable prices," Suyuti explained.

To maintain stable and accessible prices, the provincial government collaborated with food distributors and Perum Bulog (the state logistics agency) in Mamuju. They provided a variety of basic necessities, including rice, cooking oil, sugar, eggs, shallots, garlic, and chili peppers. These items were offered at prices significantly lower than prevailing market rates.

The initiative has been met with enthusiasm from the local population. Nur Aini, a resident of Mamuju, expressed her gratitude, noting that the lower prices helped ease household expenses during the lead-up to Idul Adha. The provincial government remains committed to strategic programs that directly address community needs and control inflation.
