West Sulawesi Ministry Pushes UMKM to Boost Business Legality

The Ministry of Law and Human Rights' West Sulawesi office is actively promoting the importance of business legality for UMKM, recognizing its crucial role in fostering a robust halal ecosystem.

During the Hidayatullah Halal Festival 2026 in Mamuju, Head of the Regional Office, Saefur Rochim, emphasized that UMKM owners should not solely concentrate on product development but also secure the legal standing of their businesses. This legal certainty is vital for building consumer confidence, simplifying access to funding, and enabling growth through individual proprietorships.

The festival, organized in collaboration with the Hidayatullah Halal Certification Body (LPH) and the Mamuju Regency's Cooperatives, SMEs, and Industry Office, aims to educate businesses about halal certification implementation before the mandatory policy takes effect in October 2026. The Ministry's Administration of General Law (AHU) division provided on-site consultations, guiding UMKM on establishing businesses easily and affordably.

Saefur Rochim highlighted that individual proprietorships are key to business expansion, offering clear legal identity and administrative order, which are essential for the halal certification process. The enthusiastic participation of business owners in the consultations signals a growing awareness of the need for legal strengthening and adherence to halal standards. This effort is expected to boost local product competitiveness, enhance consumer protection, and ensure legal certainty for products in the market. The Ministry pledges continued collaboration to support a legal and competitive halal business environment.
