Westpac Fiji and Silktails launch financial literacy program

Westpac Fiji and the Kaiviti Silktails are deepening their collaboration beyond the rugby league field with a new initiative focused on financial education. This program is designed to impart essential money management skills to players, staff, and schoolchildren across Fiji.

Under this partnership, Westpac Fiji will facilitate the opening of bank accounts for all Kaiviti Silktails players. Concurrently, they will deliver comprehensive financial literacy training, covering crucial topics such as budgeting, saving strategies, financial planning, and overall money management. This aims to prepare the athletes for financial stability both during and after their playing careers.

This program is about developing players as people, not just athletes.

The initiative extends its reach to primary schools through the #CatchPassProgram. This program cleverly integrates rugby league activities with simple, age-appropriate financial education modules, making learning engaging and accessible for young students. The goal is to foster financial confidence from an early age.

Banking support and financial training will help prepare players for life both on and off the field.

Silktails Chairman Petero Civoniceva highlighted the program's focus on holistic player development, stating it's about nurturing individuals, not just athletes. He believes the banking support and financial training will be instrumental in preparing players for life's challenges off the field. Rachel White, Westpac's Head of Corporate Affairs, Marketing, and Community, added that the partnership offers a practical avenue to support young Fijians through the combined power of sport and education.

Further reinforcing the commitment to financial well-being and positive values, the initiative includes the monthly Westpac Values Clubman Award. Both organizations will also conduct visits to primary schools throughout Fiji, actively promoting financial literacy and confidence among the younger generation. The broader Westpac Fiji and Kaiviti Silktails partnership was initially established earlier this year.
